This per diem calculator estimates the tax-free daily allowances payable for a work trip. A per diem covers the extra food and living costs that arise while travelling for work, and the tax-free amount depends on how long the trip lasts.
How the calculator works and what it’s for▾
How the per diem is determined
The size of the per diem depends on how long the work trip lasts and how far it is from the regular workplace. A longer trip of more than a full day earns a full-day allowance, while a shorter trip earns a part-day allowance.
The calculator adds up the allowances for each travel day so you see the total for the whole trip. The tax-free status is based on amounts confirmed each year by the Tax Administration.
What you enter and what you get
You enter the duration of the trip and, if needed, how the travel days split into full and part days. The calculator shows the total tax-free per diem.
The result is the amount an employer can pay tax-free, provided the work trip meets the conditions for distance and duration.
Good to know
If the employer provides free meals during the trip, the per diem can be reduced, because part of the living costs is already covered elsewhere.
Always check the valid full-day and part-day amounts in the Tax Administration's decision, since the figures are confirmed annually and may change.
