How do I convert military time to standard time?

If the military time is 1300 or later, subtract 12 from the hour and add PM: 1430 − 12 = 2:30 PM. Times from 0100 to 1159 are the same number with AM (0930 = 9:30 AM), 1200 to 1259 is the noon hour PM, and 0000 to 0059 is the midnight hour — 0030 is 12:30 AM.

How military time works

Military time runs from 0000 to 2359: the day starts at 0000 (midnight), the hours count straight up through 1200 (noon) and keep going — 1300 for 1:00 PM, 1800 for 6:00 PM, 2300 for 11:00 PM. To convert to standard time, any hour of 1300 or more loses 12 and becomes PM; hours below 1200 keep their number and become AM. Times are written as four digits with no colon, so 7:05 AM is 0705, and minutes convert unchanged — 1445 is 2:45 PM.

The only tricky spot is midnight. The start of a day is 0000, and the first hour of the day runs 0000–0059 (12:30 AM is 0030). The notation 2400 exists too, but only as the end of a day: 2400 on Tuesday and 0000 on Wednesday are the same instant. Timetables prefer 0000 or 2359 so a time never points at two different days.
