Flip a virtual coin and get heads or tails. Animated coin toss with flip history and statistics.
↑ Flip coin
This coin flip settles heads-or-tails decisions instantly without a real coin. The animated flip returns a random result and keeps stats across your flips, so you can see how a longer run is distributed.
How the calculator works and what it’s for▾
How the randomness works
Each flip has an equal chance of heads or tails. The tool draws the outcome fairly, so any single flip is pure chance and does not depend on previous results.
Over many flips the share of heads and tails moves closer together, which is reflected in the stats it collects.
What a coin flip is good for
It is ideal for a fair choice between two options: who goes first, who buys the coffee, or which way to go. It is also a quick way to make a decision when you would rather not choose yourself.
The stats view is useful in teaching too, when illustrating probability and the law of large numbers.
Good to know about the results
Over a short run the results can look skewed even though the flip is fair — several heads in a row, for example, is completely normal.
The more flips you collect, the more clearly the distribution settles close to fifty-fifty.
