How many tiles do I need per square metre?

It depends on the tile size. For 30×30 cm tiles you need about 11 per m², and for 20×20 cm tiles about 25 per m². The calculator works out the exact number from the area and tile size.

How many tiles go to waste?

About 10% with straight laying, and 15% with diagonal or patterned layouts. Edge and fitting pieces need extra. Keep a few spare tiles for future repairs too.

Should tiles be bought from the same batch?

Yes. There can be slight shade differences between production batches. Buy enough of the same batch at once (the batch number is shown on the packaging) to ensure an even result.

How do I calculate wall tiles?

The same principle as floor tiles: calculate the wall area (height × width), subtract large openings and add a waste margin. The calculator works for both floor and wall tiles.

How the tile count is calculated

The tool adds your chosen waste allowance to the area to be tiled and divides the result by the area of a single tile to get the number of tiles needed. It then converts the count into boxes as well.

For example, a 12 square metre floor with a 10 percent allowance means about 13 square metres of tiles, which is a certain number of pieces depending on the tile size.

You enter the area to be tiled in square metres, choose the tile size, and give the waste allowance as a percentage.

You get the area including the waste allowance, the number of tiles needed, and the number of boxes, where a box covers about one square metre.
