How the conversion works
The converter uses the decimal system, where each step is a thousand times the previous: 1000 kilobytes make a megabyte, 1000 megabytes a gigabyte and 1000 gigabytes a terabyte.
So 2500 megabytes is 2.5 gigabytes, or 2.5 million kilobytes. The calculator shows the same amount in all four units at once.

This converter uses the decimal system, where 1 GB is 1000 MB, the way drive makers state sizes. Operating systems often use binary, where 1 GiB is 1024 MiB.
That is why a new hard drive's stated size looks slightly smaller on your computer — it is not a fault, just a different way of counting.
