The wallpaper calculator tells you how many rolls you need to paper the walls of a room based on the room's dimensions and your chosen wallpaper size. That way you avoid both running out mid-job and buying far too much.

How the calculator works and what it’s for

How the number of rolls is calculated

The tool divides the room's perimeter by the wallpaper width to find how many vertical strips you need. It then works out how many wall-height strips come from one roll and divides the strips by that to get the roll count.

For example, a 16 metre perimeter with 53 centimetre wallpaper means about 30 strips, and a single 10 metre roll covers several 2.5 metre strips.

What you enter and what you get

You enter the room's perimeter, the wall height, and the length and width of the wallpaper roll.

You get the number of strips needed for the walls, how many strips come from one roll, and finally the number of rolls required.

Who it is for

The calculator suits anyone doing home renovation, refreshing their decor, or giving a rental a surface makeover. It helps you sort the shopping list in one go before heading to the hardware store.

Good to know

The calculator automatically adds about 10 percent for pattern matching and waste. For patterned wallpaper it is wise to allow more, because aligning the pattern produces more offcuts.

For a more accurate result, subtract large windows and doors from the perimeter before calculating.
