The statistics calculator works out the key summary measures of a dataset at once: mean, median, mode, variance, standard deviation, plus minimum, maximum and range. Enter your numbers and see the full picture in seconds.

How the calculator works and what it’s for

What the measures tell you

The mean describes the average level of the numbers, the median splits the ordered data in half, and the mode is the most frequent value. Together they show where the centre of the data lies.

Variance and standard deviation describe the spread, that is, how far the values sit from the mean. A small standard deviation means the values are close together.

How the calculation works

The mean is the sum of the numbers divided by how many there are. The median is found by sorting the numbers and taking the middle one. The range is the difference between the largest and smallest value.

Where it's used

The statistics calculator suits school and university assignments, research and quick data checks. It gives you a fast overview of measurements, survey responses or any set of numbers.

A tip for interpretation

Compare the mean and the median: if they differ noticeably, the data may contain outliers that pull the mean in one direction. In that case the median often describes the centre better.
