Why do timestamps drift without this?

Because crossfade shortens every transition. If two tracks run 210 s and 213 s with a 6 s crossfade, the second track does not start at 3:30 but at 3:24. The error compounds: by the tenth track it is over a minute. The generator subtracts the crossfade from every transition using start_n = sum(previous durations) − crossfade × number of transitions.

Why crossfade breaks timestamps

When tracks are crossfaded into each other, every transition shortens the total by the crossfade length. Simply adding durations therefore produces timestamps that are too late, and the error compounds track by track.

The formula is: start time = sum of previous durations − crossfade × number of previous transitions. With a six-second crossfade, the tenth track shifts by 54 seconds — over a minute of error in a twenty-track mix.

How YouTube builds chapters

YouTube converts description timestamps into chapters automatically when the first timestamp is 00:00, there are at least three of them, and each chapter runs at least ten seconds.

Videos over an hour need HH:MM:SS format. The generator picks the format from the total length and uses the same format on every line.

Track order

Order comes from the filename alphabetically, and you can move tracks with the arrows. Use two-digit order numbers (01, 02, … 10) — with mixed lengths, 10 sorts before 2.

Names are cleaned automatically: the extension and order number are stripped, underscores and hyphens become spaces, and the name is title-cased. Intentional capitalisation is preserved, so DnB does not become Dnb.
