📌 Formula: needed = (desired − current × (1 − final weight)) / final weight. Assumes the rest of your grade is locked in. If your syllabus drops the lowest quiz or has extra credit, your real requirement may be lower.

The formula behind it

Your overall grade is a weighted combination of everything before the final and the final itself: overall = current × (1 − w) + final × w, where w is the final’s weight. Solving for the final score gives: needed = (desired − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w. The heavier the final, the more it can move your grade in either direction — a 50% final can rescue almost any semester, and also sink one.
