How to calculate GPA
To calculate GPA, convert each letter grade to grade points on the 4.0 scale, multiply by the course’s credit hours, sum the results, and divide by total credit hours. The formula is: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). Credit hours act as weights, so grades in bigger courses matter more.
To plan a semester, add your expected grades and see the result before finals — then use the final grade calculator to find what you need on each final, and the grade calculator to track weighted averages inside a single class. College students tracking a cumulative GPA across semesters should use the college GPA calculator.
