How weighted grades work

Most US classes weight categories differently: homework might count for 20% of your grade while the final exam counts for 50%. To calculate a weighted grade, multiply each category’s score by its weight, sum the results, and divide by the sum of the weights. A 95% homework average helps much less than a 95% final when the final is worth two and a half times as much.

The most useful trick: enter everything except the exams you have not taken yet to see where you stand today, then head to the final grade calculator to see exactly what score you need on the final. To convert a single test score like 17 out of 20, use the test grade calculator. For semester-level planning across courses, the GPA calculator converts letter grades and credit hours into your GPA on the 4.0 scale.
