The power-to-weight calculator works out your power relative to your body weight in watts per kilogram (W/kg). It is one of cycling's key performance metrics and shows how efficiently you produce force for your size.

How the calculator works and what it’s for

How power-to-weight is calculated

The ratio comes from dividing power by weight: W/kg = power (W) / weight (kg). The higher the number, the better the performance, especially on climbs and accelerations.

For example, 280 watts for a 70 kg rider gives a ratio of 4.0 W/kg.

What you enter and what you get

Enter your power in watts and your body weight in kilograms. The result is your power-to-weight ratio in W/kg.

The most comparable figure comes from using your threshold power (FTP), so the value reflects sustained performance.

Who it is for

It serves cyclists and triathletes who track their fitness with a power meter. It lets you benchmark your level and follow progress, whether by losing weight or raising power.

It also explains why a lighter rider can be fast uphill even at lower power.

Reading your results

Roughly, a recreational rider reaches about 2–3 W/kg, a fit rider 3–4 W/kg and a professional 5–6+ W/kg when measured at FTP. These values are indicative and vary with effort duration.

A short sprint produces a higher W/kg figure than sustained threshold power.
