How the calculator works and what it’s for▾
How the fiber need is calculated
Fiber needs are tied to how much energy you eat, since a larger intake generally calls for more fiber. The calculator uses the guideline of about 14 grams of fiber per 1000 kilocalories.
In practice your daily calories are multiplied by that ratio to give a personal target in grams.
What you enter and what you get
Enter your daily energy intake in kilocalories. If you don't know the exact figure, use a rough estimate or a need you have calculated before.
The result is your recommended fiber amount in grams. For adults it typically lands somewhere around 25 to 35 grams per day.
What to do with it
Enough fiber supports digestion and a steadier feeling between meals. The calculator helps you see whether you are near the recommendation or should add more fiber-rich foods.
Good sources include whole grains, vegetables, berries, fruit, legumes and nuts.
Good to know
The recommendation is a general reference value, not a strict limit. Individual needs vary with age, body size and health.
If you increase fiber, do it gradually and drink enough water so your gut can adjust to the change.
