Gravel Calculator
Calculate the volume (m³) and weight (tonnes) of gravel or crushed stone from area dimensions and layer thickness.

Volume
| Volume | 3.00 m³ |
| Weight | 4.80 t |
| Area | 30.0 m² |
This gravel calculator estimates the volume and weight of gravel or crushed stone you need once you know the area dimensions and the desired layer thickness. The result helps you order the right amount in cubic metres and tonnes.
How the calculator works and what it’s for▾
How volume and weight are calculated
The tool multiplies length by width to get the area, then multiplies by the layer thickness to get the volume in cubic metres. The weight is found by multiplying the volume by the given density.
For example, an area 5 metres long and 4 metres wide with a 10 cm layer means 2 m³ of gravel, which at a density of 1.6 t/m³ weighs about 3.2 tonnes.
Inputs and results
Enter length and width in metres, layer thickness in centimetres and density in t/m³. The result gives you the volume, the weight and the area.
The weight in tonnes is useful because gravel and crushed stone are often sold and delivered by weight.
What it is used for
It suits yard projects such as planning paths, base layers or drainage. It helps you request a quote and a delivery with the right quantity.
Good to know about density
Gravel density is roughly 1.5–1.7 t/m³ and crushed stone about 1.6–1.8 t/m³. The actual density varies with grain size and moisture, so check the exact value with your supplier before ordering.
