HbA1c Calculator
Convert your long-term blood sugar (HbA1c) into estimated average glucose in mmol/L and mg/dL.
6.3 mmol/l
Average glucose
| Average glucose | 6.3 mmol/l |
| Average glucose (mg/dL) | 114 mg/dl |
| HbA1c (mmol/mol) | 38 mmol/mol |
The HbA1c calculator converts your long-term blood sugar (HbA1c) into an estimated average glucose level. You get the result in both mmol/L and mg/dL, along with the value in the international mmol/mol format.
How the calculator works and what it’s for▾
How the conversion works
The calculator uses the ADAG formula eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × HbA1c − 46.7, which links your HbA1c percentage to estimated average glucose. The mg/dL value is then converted to mmol/L.
For example, an HbA1c of 7% corresponds to roughly 8.6 mmol/L average glucose. The higher the HbA1c, the higher the long-term average blood sugar.
What you enter and what you get
You enter your HbA1c value as a percentage. The result gives the estimated average glucose in mmol/L and mg/dL, plus your HbA1c in mmol/mol.
Having multiple units makes it easy to compare results no matter which format your lab reports.
Who it is for
The calculator helps people with diabetes and their families understand what an HbA1c value means as an everyday glucose level. It translates the long-term figure into familiar meter units.
The target is usually below 7%, though an individual goal may differ.
Good to know
The result is an estimate of average glucose and does not replace a lab measurement or your own meter readings. Individual glucose values can swing widely around the estimated average.
Always discuss your results and your personal target with your doctor or nurse.
