This fuel consumption calculator reveals your car's real consumption in litres per 100 km from the fuel you added and the distance you drove. You can see whether actual consumption matches the maker's figure and how your driving style affects running costs.

How the calculator works and what it’s for

How consumption is calculated

Consumption is the litres added divided by the distance, multiplied by 100. Add 40 litres and drive 600 km and consumption works out to about 6.7 l/100 km.

The calculator also gives a second result, distance per litre (km/l), showing how far you get on a single litre.

What you enter and what you get

You provide two values: the fuel added in litres and the distance in kilometres the car covered on that fuel.

You get consumption in l/100 km and efficiency in km/l. Both describe the same thing from different angles.

Who benefits from it

It suits any driver who wants to track real consumption, compare cars or estimate fuel costs for a long trip.

It also shows how city driving, a heavy load or winter tyres push consumption up compared with steady motorway driving.

Tips for an accurate reading

Fill the tank completely at the start and end of the measurement so the litres match exactly the distance driven. A single fill-up varies, so a reliable figure comes from averaging several tankfuls.

Reset the trip meter when you refuel to read the distance directly without any arithmetic.
