How are the day counts calculated?

Each countdown takes today’s date from your device and counts the full days remaining until the holiday’s next occurrence. Today doesn’t count as a remaining day: if a holiday is tomorrow the counter shows 1, and on the day itself it shows “Today!”. Once a holiday passes, the counter rolls over to next year automatically.

How do floating holidays like Thanksgiving get their dates?

Several US holidays are defined by a weekday rule instead of a fixed date: Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Memorial Day the last Monday of May, Labor Day the first Monday of September, Mother’s Day the second Sunday of May and Father’s Day the third Sunday of June.
